11th January: Tree pruning and Wassail – learn to prune fruit trees and welcome in the New Year!
Learn the principles of winter tree pruning and put them into practice in this workshop. There will be a short theory session indoors, then you’ll have a chance to see the theory put into practice and have a go for yourself!
This will be the last workshop of the food growing course as well as the traditional time of year for wassailing, an old tradition to wish the orchard well for the coming year. What better time to celebrate? We’ll finish off the workshop with mulled apple juice, snacks and maybe some wassail songs!
Location info: Most of the workshop will take place on the Croft (https://goo.gl/maps/KmXUJ6manxfbRZbT6). The woodland garden where the fruit trees are is up a short but steep grassy slope. The theory session will be indoors at the Carbon College office on Queen Charlotte Street.
